Disney, a mass media and entertainment conglomerate, left some LGBTQ+ members disappointed after director JJ Abrams teased the reveal of an LGBTQ+ character in the film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, only for the characters involved to be of two minor roles, whom briefly kissed at the very conclusion of the film.^[10]^[8]

The specific origins of the straight ally flag are unknown, however it is said to represent all non-LGBTQ+ individuals who are proud allies of the community, and is thought to have been created in the early 2000s. Some abrosexual people may be fluid between all sexualities, while others may only be fluid between a few.

Gay Men’s Pride Flag

The Gay Men’s Pride Flag is another lesser known pride flag.

A bigender individual is a person having or experiencing two different genders of any combination.

Tasked by Harvey Milk, a historic figure in the fight for LGBTQ rights, to create a flag for the queer community, Baker created a rainbow flag with eight different colors.
Inspired by the classic song “Over the Rainbow” from the 1939 film The Wizard from Oz, Baker created a rainbow flag to represent LGBTQ folks. Erik Carnell, a transgender designer and artist whose products were pulled from Target's shelves, stated, "It's a very dangerous precedent to set, that if people just get riled up enough about the products that you're selling, you can completely distance yourself from the LGBT community, when and if it's convenient.
Being mistaken as being LGBTQIA+ is not something someone chooses, but we are often punished socially and institutionally for being who we are.

So, if you’re still reading this, and you want to be an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community consider the following:

Allyship is consistently choosing actions of allyship as requested by the LGBTQIA+ community.
Allyship means standing with us, even if you’re mistaken as one of us, because being LGBTQIA+ is not a bad thing, because contrary to “don’t say gay” bills and bans on drag performances, “gay” “queer” “lesbian” etc are not bad words, or bad identities.
Allyship means being vocal for LGBTQIA+ rights whether or not LGBTQIA+ people are in the room watching your actions.
Allyship is listening to the community/ies you are trying to be an ally to.
Throw away the “ally” flag and rock the rainbow (preferably the progress pride flag pictured above), with those of us who are LGBTQIA+ and whose livelihoods, mental wellness, and lives, are endangered by hate and bigotry everyday.

I have been told that asking people not to use the “ally” flag is being too picky about who I choose as my allies, but the distinction the “ally” flag represents, that you “support” us but definitely are not one of us, is not the making of an ally to me.

Gender queer is similar to non-binary but has a slightly different meaning.
