One of the seven wonders of the natural world, the park stretches for 2,300 kilometers along the state of Queensland.

ULURU-KATA TJUTA NATIONAL PARK

Deep in the heart of Australias’s Red Centre, Uluru (formerly known as Ayers Rock), is one of the most photographed natural wonders in the country.

When the first British settlers arrived in the country in the 1700s, they preferred to survive on a bland diet of bread and salt-preserved meat rather than embrace the nutritious bush tucker diet of the native Aboriginal communities. However, he resigned three and a half weeks later without having chaired a National Executive meeting, and the party's national secretary reported "severe friction" within the party.

The top attraction along the road is Port Campbell National Park, with the wind and wave sculpted rock formations known as the Twelve Apostles, London Bridge, the Arch and Loch Ard Gorge.

KANGAROO ISLAND

Located off the Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia, the island is littered with kangaroos.

Check out the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art and head to the city’s South Bank, which has lots going on, including markets, a swimming lagoon and a city beach.

ADELAIDE

Known for its artsy, bohemian vibe, the city always has a packed calendar of cultural events. In July 2012, Brian Greig was narrowly elected National President of the Australian Democrats, following a national ballot of the membership of the party.

It’s also home to otherworldly rock structures formed 25,000 years ago. While this stretched out celebration lasts weeks, it still maintains a commitment to social justice for the LGBTQ+ community.

  • Sydney Pride Festival – Pride is a special time for the community to remember its history and celebrate the present, and Sydney Pride never disappoints, even if it does play second fiddle to Mardi Gras.

  • Coastal Twist Festival – Central Coast NSW’s version of Pride bursts into spring with a weekend of queer happenings from cabaret and dance parties to exhibitions and events.

    1. Melbourne Queer Film Festival – For nearly 30 years, Melbourne Queer Film Festival has engaged the community to showcase the finest contemporary queer cinema from Australia and beyond in the largest queer film festival in the southern hemisphere.
    2. ChillOut Festival – ChillOut has grown to become the biggest and longest-running country queer pride event in regional Australia.

He declared his homosexuality in his maiden parliamentary speech, being the first Federal parliamentarian to do so. In the Senate, Greig was responsible for introducing three pieces of legislation: a bill to outlaw genocide in Australia, a bill to eliminate discrimination against gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex people and a bill to promote government use of open source software above all others.

Though he campaigned strongly on issues of social justice, he remained little known until 2002. Check out the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery as well as the controversial Museum of Old and New Art (MONA).

    SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE

Designed by a Danish architect who won an international competition for its design, construction on the opera house was completed in 1973.

So quite a significant population group," head of health statistics at the ABS Robert Long told reporters during a briefing.

The data found that young Australians aged 16 to 24 were twice as likely as the overall population to identify as LGBTI+.

"The LGBTI+ population has a young age structure so about one in 10, or 9.5 per cent, of people aged 16 to 24 years are LGBTI+, as are 7.5 per cent of 25- to 34-year-olds," Mr Long said.

"Another way of interpreting this data is that six out of 10 LGBTI+ people are aged between 16 and 34 years, and 8 per cent are age 65 years and over."

Young people are also twice as likely to be trans, with 1.8 per cent of people aged 16 to 24 saying they are trans, compared to 0.9 per cent of the overall population.

Bisexuality was the most reported sexual orientation in the LGBTI+ community, at 1.7 per cent of the overall population.

The ACT has the highest proportion of LGBTI+ residents (5.6 per cent), compared to South Australia and Western Australia, with 3.9 per cent of residents there saying they were LGBTI+.

Most trans people — eight out of 10 — live in the major cities, according to the data.

"Some other characteristics are half of all trans and gender-diverse people are married or in a de facto relationship and 15 per cent of trans and gender-diverse people speak a language other than English as the main language at home," Mr Long said.

    'Under-reported'

Mr Long acknowledged that the data might not tell the full story of Australia's sex and gender-diverse community.

"We make the assumption that there will be some under-reporting for some or all of the items due to the sensitivity of the content."

The data comes after a heated political debate over including questions on sexuality and gender in the next census.

In August, the federal government quietly dumped plans to include questions on the LGBTI+ community in the census, contrary to a commitment in Labor's national platform to do so.

Senior members of the government said it did not want to add a question out of fear it would become "divisive", prompting an internal revolt that ultimately led to the reversal of the opposition to the plan.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said a single question on sexuality would be included in the next census, due in 2026.

The ABS said it conducted community testing before any new questions were added to the census.

Advocates say the questions are needed to determine the full scope of the sex- and gender-diverse population.

"The ABS data is a reminder to all political parties that they must have policies recognising the human rights of LGBTI+ people and addressing the disadvantages we face in areas such as health, housing, employment, education and public safety," spokesperson for Just.Equal Rodney Croome said in a statement.

"The ABS estimate highlights that LGBTI+ people are a key constituency and a powerful voting bloc ahead of next year's federal election."

"This data will also help foster inclusion and equity in the broader community by reminding non-LGBTI+ Australians that we are a substantial part of Australian society and that we make an important contribution to national life," Mr Croome said.

Interesting Cities to Visit in Australia

    SYDNEY

Modern and sophisticated, Sydney is one of the best cities for tourists to visit.

The city boasts riverfront promenades, islands and beaches, making it a paradise for lovers of water. With gorgeous beaches and the Blue Mountains on the doorstep, there’s plenty to explore and discover. A great way to appreciate the views is to stroll along the scenic Bondi to Bronte coastal walk, which starts at the southern end of the beach and follows the coastline for six kilometers along sandstone cliffs.

    DAINTREE NATIONAL PARK

A Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, Daintree National Park in Far North Queensland is among the most ancient ecosystems on Earth.

The typical meat pie is roughly hand-sized and usually filled with mince or diced meat, sometimes with the addition of gravy and vegetables, and is eaten as a snack or light lunch. Named for the blue haze emanating from the eucalyptus trees, this park protects more than 664,000 acres of wilderness and encompasses dramatic gorges, waterfalls, aboriginal rock paintings, and 140 kilometers of hiking trails.

    BONDI BEACH

One of the world’s most famous beaches, Bondi Beach is home to one of the oldest surf lifesaving clubs in the world.

While in university, Greig campaigned on the issue of student fees and, in 1986, he helped re-establish the National Union of Students. It’s also known for being a wellness destination with endless spas offering ways to pamper yourself. On 13 June 2011, Greig was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the community as a social justice advocate for the gay and lesbian community.

The marine park was established in 1975 to protect its fragile ecosystems, which include more than 3,000 coral reefs, 600 continental islands, 300 coral cays and inshore mangrove islands. During the 1990s, Greig worked for several Australian Labor Party politicians, including Senator Peter Cook, but became disillusioned with Labor and joined the Democrats.

Along Seventy Five Mile Beach, you can see the rusted hulls of shipwrecks in addition to the colored sandstone cliffs of The Cathedrals.

    KAKADU NATIONAL PARK

Located in the Northern Territory, the park is a World Heritage Site and one of the planet’s great wilderness areas. However, all three were unsuccessful, as they were blocked by the Liberal–National government.
