What I don’t understand or appreciate is just how hard the writers of House M.D. want me to like him. I feel like the people who wrote House used him to say everything they really thought - which was horrible racism, homophobia and misogyny. Eric Foreman: I mean my parents' other son.

"I love you" moment in "97 Seconds"
Many fics were written as responsefics to this episode (so many so that the house_wilson has a tag for them) -- as a disclaimer from "Sewn Shut"[2] by allycelestastar would indicate:
I had actually started this fic long before seeing “97 Seconds” and That Scene.
Instead they try so hard to get us to find his bigotry charming, and this is where they lose me. A guy I knew at uni - who was a racist and a homophobe - LOVED House, because “he said what everyone was thinking” and “didn’t care about offending people”. A previous episode featured a patient who was a gay man living with HIV. He was every bad stereotype in one poorly drawn character - hard partying, drug taking, casual sex having, condom averse - and House used every opportunity he had to make offensive gay jokes at his expense.
Of course, I'm a very permissive, understanding chaperone. Gregory House: Oh my God. You invoked your dead girlfriend's name to sell me. Eric Foreman: Got a call last week from your P.I. You lied, you *did* have me investigated. Every female character is either a nag, a sex object, overly emotional or all three.
That's why his first wife had a wooden leg. “You’re not a god, House,” he says. Gregory House: You're right.
