Gay Scene in St. Martin

As a dual-nation island, acceptance is part of the fabric on this tiny island. This tiny island is the smallest land mass in the world to be shared by two nations (France and the Kingdom of the Netherlands), but it does not feel small at all!

LGBTQ+ travelers will feel welcome although there is not a “gay scene” so to speak. It is where the cruise port is located and has easy access to whatever you want. The border is all but invisible between the two countries. Same sex marriage is recognized when registered in the Netherlands and the Caribbean Netherlands (Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba).

The border is all but invisible between the two countries. Enjoy the sun, the white sandy beaches, the overwhelming blue sea and all the fun. The area is rebounding with even more than it had before Hurricane Irma including a whole new restaurant scene.

St. You'll be charmed by its gingerbread houses, colorful boutiques, and sidewalk cafés.

There are stunning bays and 37 white sand beaches circumventing this pretty and hilly island which makes it ideal for sunning and snorkeling.

Cupecoy Beach is known as the gay beach and has made a big comeback since Hurricane Irma.

The northern side is French and the southern part is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Foodies will want to partake in Restaurant Row located on Grand Case

Gay-Friendly Bars & Nightlife

The nightife is big relative to its size. St. Martin itself offers a unique cultural mix of French and Dutch influences, with everything from casual beach bars to fine dining, live music, and legendary beaches.

Onboard, comfort comes first.

If the great outdoors isn’t your thing, enjoy the world class food, fabulous beach bars all over the island, and high class shopping on Rue de Charles de Gaulle in Marigot and on Front Street in Philipsburg.

LGBT LIFE ON “THE FRIENDLY ISLAND”

Information on LGBT life on the island of St Maarten / St Martin

We put together this website to give you the “insider scoop” on gay life on SXM (the airport code and the easy name to use on the island on the rest of your journey through this website), whether you are on the Dutch side or French side.

At night, you’ll find plenty of bars and nightclubsto choose from.

Our final tip is that though SXM is more open than many islands in the Caribbean, because of it’s international appeal, just be mindful in “non-touristy” areas.
